Updates to IEP program - Simplified

Always, always, always make a backup of the data file (iep.mdb) before beginning these procedures.  Just copy it and put it in a different folder. And make a backup of the iep.dot file template too. Both files are located in the main folder where the IEP executable file is.

This applies to version #4.6 of this program, which is the latest version, meant for Windows 98,  Windows NT,  Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems. This IS a cumulative update. Installing this update will overwrite your IEP.dot and IEPSPEEC.dot file templates. If you made customizations to those templates, save a backup copy, so you can reapply your changes to the new template. There are now 3 executable programs instead of 1. It depends upon the version of Microsoft Office you are using on your local machine. If you are using Office 97 then install IEP2001_97.exe. If you are using Office 2000, then install IEP2001_2K.exe. If Office XP or Office 2003 then IEP2001.XP.exe.

January 2006 changes: Changes were made to the IEP and Speech IEP templates (DOT files). The new wordings correspond to changes in the State requirements. For instance the PLEP statement has been changed.  The templates aren’t functionally different. There was a minor change made to Student Data Screen #4 – Testing. The ESPA or NJASK are now called “State-wide” and the grades it is given are 3,4,5,6,7, 8. There is no more GEPA test. It has been replaced by the State-wide test.

Microsoft Office needed: You will need Office 2003. XP, 2000 or Office 97 for this program to function. Which version of the program used, depends up which version of Office you have on your local machine.

Use iep2001_2K.exe if you use Office 2000

Use iep2001_XP.exe if you use Office XP or Office 2003.

Use iep2001_97.exe, if you use Office 97.

Upgrading using the Web:

1.       Access the Internet; then go to "www.prettydarngood.com". Once there, choose the IEP -Support option in the left window frame.

2.       Enter the secret password in the text, input box. Then use the Mouse to press the Send button. New hypertext links will appear. Click on the top one, the Update version 4.6.  The file you will download is called IEPver4x.exe.

3.       IEPVer4x.exe is a compressed file containing the changed programs. That file contains the familiar IEPNew and IEPGnu files that we have been using. IEPGnu4.exe is a compressed file containing all the program changes and IEPNew4.exe contains all the database changes. Click the “Update” link, and follow the download instructions.  When you open IEPVer4x.exe, it will spawn 5 files to c:\temp directory.  They are IEPGnu4.exe, IEPNew4.exe, and 3 files meant to copy and register some additional support programs on your computer (RegDll98, RegDll2K, and RegDllXP

4.       Go to your c:\temp folder with Windows Explorer and double-click on iepgnu4 and iepnew4. Depending on your operating system, click on the RegDll??.exe file with the matching suffix. This will expand each file’s contents into the proper folder on your machine (network installs are an exception to this. You can check the web site for those instructions –IEP - Support section.).

5.       Start the program and don’t sign in yet.

6.       Ordinarily, you must first run the “Update Student Data from the Repair/Update menu. (You don’t need to update Student Data for this update on January 2006. No database changes were made. So skip this step.)
If you haven’t already run the procedure for making sure that all ID’s are at least 6 digits, you will need to do that. If you did this last time, then skip it now.  On the Repair/Update menu you will see an item called “Make all ID’s 6 digits”. That will prefix zeroes so that all your student ID’s will be at least 6 digits long. This is required if you will be adding district code suffixes to the student ID’s in order to differentiate which district they are from. After you run this second item, then run the Repair Data Tables item. There are only 3 things listed on the Repair/Update menu. Just run them all in the order above.

7.       If this is a network install, then have the network administrator read the special instructions for installation on a network

8.       Now sign in.

Sincerely,
